Dear Prospective Families,

Welcome! First and foremost, I encourage you to reach out to me at any time so that I may introduce myself and share with you the beauty and successes of our little school and also to answer any questions you may have. We are aware of the careful discernment parents go through when choosing an educational program for their child and we thank you for considering St. Lawrence Martyr School.

We are a close-knit, faith-filled community dedicated to teaching Catholic principles, fostering Christian living and providing excellence in academic formation. Prayer is integral to the school day and students learn to recognize Christ’s presence in every moment. In building the foundation for sacramental living, our students attend Mass weekly, participate in Stations of the Cross, the Living Rosary, May Crowning, St. Francis' Blessing of the Animals Mass and many other prayer services and events. The SLM faculty and staff also strive to help our students understand the importance of serving others and, thus, provide many volunteer opportunities, such as  collecting and distributing goods for food drives, writing letters to service men and women overseas, and providing support at liturgies as altar servers, lectors and greeters.

St. Lawrence Martyr School takes pride in providing a challenging, comprehensive and relevant curriculum that addresses the various learning styles of the students. The curriculum includes Religion, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Spanish, Art, Physical Education, Music and computer software classes. Resource staff are available for students with identified special learning needs. We are also fortunate to provide access to an on-site school counselor.

In addition to our curriculum, our school provides before and after school childcare, as well as, many other after-school activities. Some of the activities include the following: creative writing, computer coding, art, chess, the ADLA Academic Junior High Decathlon, the Constitutional Rights Mock Trial, as well as several athletic teams – football, basketball, volleyball, softball, track and field, and soccer.

St. Lawrence Martyr School boasts an exceptional faculty and staff, who care deeply for the educational and spiritual development of each student. All of our teachers hold multiple or single-subject teaching credentials and over half have Master’s degrees. Our faculty members each have at least 5 to 20 years of teaching experience and view their work in a Catholic school as missionary in spirit. Additionally, the majority of our teachers are certified catechists by way of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles' Basic Catechist Certification Program.  It is not without great dedication that we continue to meet or exceed the expectations of our WASC/WCEA accreditation reviews every six years.

Finally, this past summer the SLM administration, faculty and staff met to discuss the value of a Catholic education at St. Lawrence Martyr School. I am truly inspired by the team's understanding and thoughtfulness of educating the whole-child. The following embodies our root beliefs about a St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic School education:

-Learning is joy-filled, meaningful and intrinsic to life.

-All students deserve a safe, loving and positive learning environment.

-Each student has his or her own way of receiving and expressing knowledge.

-Every student can learn, grow and be successful.

-A solid educational system exists when parent, child, and teacher work together with Christ at the center.

We wish you much success through the discernment process of selecting a school for your child. Please feel free to call or email me if you have any questions 310-316-3049 ext. 257 or diane.kaiser@stlm.org.

Many blessings,
